Concept 33: Why does hair get white?

5 reasons that turn hair to white are:

1. Reduction in melanin production: Melanin is the pigment that gives our hair its color. As we age, the number and activity of melanocytes (cells that produce melanin) can decrease, resulting in less melanin being produced. This can cause hair to become gray or white as it grows out.

2. Genetics: The timing and extent of graying can also be influenced by genetics. Some people may start to go gray in their 20s or 30s, while others may not see any gray hairs until much later in life. If your parents or grandparents started going gray at an early age, you may be more likely to as well.

3. Ethnicity: People of different ethnicities tend to experience graying at different rates. For example, people of Asian descent tend to go gray later in life than people of European descent.

4. Environmental factors: Exposure to certain environmental factors, such as pollution, can also contribute to premature graying. Additionally, smoking has been linked to premature graying.

5. Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders and vitiligo, can cause premature graying. Additionally, some medications and treatments, such as chemotherapy, can cause hair to turn white or fall out.
